Lac de Moiry is another great alpine dam. This means you can expect quite roads because it’s a dead end. It’s a long climb and includes a downhill section to Mayoux. This area seems very “Swiss,” in that there are a lot of very old and well-preserved barns and homes stuck to the steep hillsides. The architecture is very traditional and stereotypical of what you think of as Swiss.

The dam in the distance as you ride up this incredible valley. Expect to see a lot of Alpine Marmots!

The final push up to the dam is really steep but if you have made it this far you must grind it out.

There is a tunnel at the top of Lac de Moiry. It is short and has a few lights. Not too scary to ride.

The road to Lac de Moiry is very quite because it’s a dead end.

To ride or Not to Ride
Yes! This is a great route. I started late in the day and would have liked to do more exploring around the area. The town of Zinal is not far a way but it was getting dark and I was chasing daylight.
