Rental Review: 1474 East Weldona Way, Superior, CO.

Nothing Positive. This was the dirtiest, nastiest rental, Airbnb or VRBO I’ve ever had, and I rent a lot.

Water disconnection notice.

Where:

1474 East Weldona Way
Superior, CO 80027

  • Why: I had business in this area, it was in the right place and relatively* well priced. (*Now I know why.)
  • How: Airbnb
  • When: October 2019
  • What: a single-family home
  • Bonus: We received a Water Shut Off Notice on the front door from the city because the waterbill had not been paid!

First, you walk into an empty living room. That’s fine, except there are zero window treatments so anyone can look right in, 24-7.

The wood floors are gleaming. That matches the pictures on Airbnb. Then you head into the kitchen. At first glance, it looks clean but then as you look closer, you realize it is absolutely filthy. The cabinets and drawers are filled with a mish-mash of junk and essentials including sticky spills and crumbs. There is no order. The pans were covered in baked-on grease. The blinds and most of the cabinets are caked with grease or have spilled food. The dining table in the kitchen has nasty dried food spills on the edges. It is unsanitary and unsettling! There is not a dishtowel in sight. None. Prepare to burn through paper towels. But there are cloth hot pads scattered about in various drawers. They are caked and sticky with copious grease stains as well. And the adjacent sliding glass door lock is broken. Thankfully, they have left a 2×4 nearby so you can lock the door.

Broken sliding glass door.

The sliding glass door doesn’t lock. The screen door is so jammed you have to put full body weight against it to move it.

In the TV room, we couldn’t figure out how to turn on the lights. There is filth behind the TV.

The garage literally has shelves full of junk, dirt and debris and leaves. There is no garage door opener remote. Oh – and the garage door DID NOT SHUT when it went below 35-degrees!

Heading upstairs, the poor construction of the house is made evident with every step creaking. Two bedrooms are kids’ rooms, which we didn’t use. The master bedroom has a box spring on the floor, no nightstands, one light in the corner. The bed situated so there is only about 10 inches on one side and several feet on the other. My wife read it bed with her cell phone flashlight on her shoulder.

No nightstands, but one very conveniently placed light and copious distance to wall.

The doorway to the master bathroom is partially obstructed by the master bedroom door. Shut the bedroom door at night or be very careful if you need to use the bathroom at night. Once inside the master bathroom, we found one, yes 1, towel. When you go to look for more, you will find hair and filth in the cabinets. There is mold and mildew in the shower corners and on the bottom of the shower curtain. You won’t find a wastepaper basket. So plan to care your bathroom trash downstairs to the spill-covered trash cans in the kitchen. And don’t get me started on towel quality.

This looked like some kind of body fluid, maybe a child's bloody booger, smeared on the wall.
